Sanitation Collection

Sanitation collection starts at 6:00 AM. Scroll to the bottom of this page to find your scheduled collection days. Back door service is provided for garbage (kitchen waste, etc.), while rubbish must be placed at the curb. Garbage and/or rubbish should be placed at the curb no sooner than nine (9) hours before collection. Emptied containers should be removed within six (6) hours after collection. Wood, branches and rugs must be tied. Tires are not collected. Rubbish from contract services left on the premises will not be collected.

Recyclables are collected each Wednesday (except on weeks with holidays). Recyclables include all glass, metal and plastic food jars, bottles and cans, metal containers (e.g. tennis ball cans), wine bottles, liquor bottles and other similar containers, and newspapers. Newspapers should be tied and placed at the curb (do not use plastic bags). Magazines, books and telephone books are collected on rubbish days. Do not recycle deposit cans and bottles, which are recycled by returning the item for deposit redemption.

Do not recycle aerosol cans, drinking glasses, light bulbs, mirrors, window glass or paint cans.

Special collection for metal objects may be arranged by calling DPW at 334-0062. State law requires that refrigerator doors be removed. We do not accept propane tanks; call for a list of vendors to dispose of propane tanks.

Residents placing dumpsters in the street are required to obtain a permit from the Village Hall.

Postings in Public

Nassau County prohibits the posting of notices, signs or handbills on any post, pole or tree (e.g., garage sale, tag sale, lost pet signs, etc.). However, you may temporarily place signs on private property to announce a particular event. To do so, you must acquire a permit from the Clerk-Treasurer's Office and gain permission of the property owner. The sign may be no larger than four (4) square feet (e.g, 2x2) and the posting must be removed at the conclusion of the event or within a reasonable length of time.

Street Lighting

If there is a street light out on your block please contact DPW at 516-334-0062 with the location and pole number.
